Reel Fun Fishing Day at Deer Island

As part of the Boston Harbor Islands Anniversary Celebration, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) hosted “Reel Fun Fishing Day at Deer Island” on June 4, 2022.

More than 200 people participated in the event with close to half arriving by ferry from Rowes Wharf. With equipment, instruction, and guidance provided by the Department of Marine Fisheries (DMF), fishing enthusiasts of all ages crowed the new 260-foot recreational fishing pier.

The weather was perfect and there was a festive atmosphere as participants gathered at stations set up along the shoreline.

In addition to receiving outreach materials and angler information from DMF, The National Park Service, Boston Harbor Now, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, and MWRA’s Education Department entertained and educated the crowd with games and activities.

A similar event is scheduled at MWRA’s Nut Island in Quincy on September 24, 2022.
