Getting There:

Visiting Georges and Spectacle Island isn’t just easy—it’s an experience in itself! During the public ferry season, ferries depart regularly from Long Wharf in downtown Boston, offering a smooth and scenic ride across the harbor. In just 20–30 minutes, you’ll find yourself stepping onto an island escape that feels worlds away from the city. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking skyline views, cool ocean breezes, and maybe even a glimpse of local wildlife. With convenient ferry schedules and a hassle-free ride, getting to the Boston Harbor Islands has never been easier—or more enjoyable!

What To Expect:

Georges and Spectacle Islands are two great islands to visit if you’re an island newbie and are ready to take your first adventure into the park. A visit to Georges or Spectacle Island offers a perfect mix of history, adventure, and relaxation just minutes from downtown Boston. 

Georges Island is home to the legendary Fort Warren, a Civil War-era fortress where you can wander through dark tunnels, explore towering granite walls, and enjoy stunning harbor views from the island’s scenic picnic spots. Georges Island is equipped with public restrooms, water stations, play areas for kids, and a snack cart with outdoor seating, so you can spend all the time you need exploring.

Meanwhile, Spectacle Island is a paradise for outdoor lovers, featuring the highest point in the harbor with 360-degree views of Boston, sandy beaches for seasonal swimming, and hiking trails that wind through lush landscapes. Like Georges Island, Spectacle is equipped with public restrooms, water stations, and a snack cart with outdoor seating.
