Boston Harbor Islands launches new FREE daily activities for Georges and Spectacle

This summer, every day is an adventure on the Boston Harbor Islands, your National Park next door! Whether you’re looking for history, art, nature, or just a relaxing day by the water, Spectacle and Georges Island have something for everyone—every day of the week from June 16 to September 1. From guided hikes and hands-on science activities to art projects and live music, the islands are alive with engaging programs for all ages. Here’s what you can look forward to each day:
Monday
Spectacle Island

Explore Spectacle Island like never before with iSpy, a fun and interactive nature-based scavenger hunt. Perfect for all ages, this adventure will have you searching for hidden treasures, spotting local wildlife, and discovering the island’s unique natural features.
Georges Island

Art in the Park (11:15 AM – 3:00 PM)
Unleash your creativity with a variety of art activities designed to enrich your island experience. Test your hand at watercolors, write and illustrate nature haikus, learn to decode signal flags, and explore sun printing. -
Fort Tours (11:15 AM & 1:15 PM)
Catch a historic tour of Fort Warren on Georges Island and explore the Civil War era fortification. Tours are offered every day of the week.
Tuesday

Unleash your creativity with a variety of art activities designed to enrich your island experience. Test your hand at watercolors, write and illustrate nature haikus, learn to decode signal flags, and explore sun printing. -
Science in the Park: Participatory Tuesdays (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM)
Explore the islands at your own pace and collect data through participatory science on Tuesdays, join a guided nature walk on Wednesdays, or visit the Exploration Station for hands-on activities on Fridays.
Georges Island

Science in the Park: Wild Wednesdays (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM)
Explore the plants, wildlife, and other natural resources of the Boston Harbor Islands on a guided walk each Wednesday. -
Knotical Know-How (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Challenge your nautical know-how by learning practical marine knots at a hands-on station for all ages.

Kidleidoscope (1:15 PM – 2:15 PM)
Bring your little explorers to Kidleidoscope, a fun and engaging program designed to discover the wonders of nature on Spectacle Island! Through storytelling, hands-on activities, and guided exploration, kids will learn about the island’s wildlife, plants, and natural landscape in an interactive and exciting way. -
Knotical Know-How (2:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
Challenge your nautical know-how by learning practical marine knots at a hands-on station for all ages.

Greetings from Georges Island! Stop by the Visitor Center to decorate a postcard and send someone special a note. When you’re ready, grab a postage stamp from a park ranger and drop your postcard in our Sail Mailbox. -

Catch a historic tour of Fort Warren on Georges Island and explore the Civil War era fortification. Tours are offered twice daily, seven days a week.

Science in the Park will offer educational activities and hands-on learning about topics in science, stewardship, nature, and sustainability. Explore the islands at your own pace and collect data through participatory science on Tuesdays, join a guided nature walk on Wednesdays, or visit the Exploration Station for hands-on activities on Fridays. -
Hike with a Ranger (11:30 AM – 12:15 PM)
Join a park ranger for a 45-minute guided hike up the North or South Drumlin. -
TGIF (Thank Goodness I’m Fishing) (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Cast aside your worries and learn the basics and pleasures of fishing with a ranger on Spectacle Island! Practice hook-free casting with three types of fishing rods.
