Voyage Back In Time To Great Brewster Island
A special tour by the Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands highlights a remarkable tale of 4 women who sojourned on Great Brewster in 1891.
Experience the history and mystery of the Boston Harbor Islands in a special trip circumnavigating Great Brewster Island with the Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands.
The trip celebrates the 133-year-old excursion of four intrepid women from Lowell who spent 17 days sojourning on Great Brewster Island, an experience documented in A Boston Harbor Islands Adventure: The Great Brewster Journal of 1891, authored by Stephanie Schorow and the Friends.
With Great Brewster and Boston Light on Little Brewster as a backdrop, Friends volunteers will present entries from the elaborate journal kept by the women, and show slides of the islands as they were in 1891. Columbia Point will circle the island several times with pause points for presentations. See the islands through the eyes of four remarkable women who defied convention to travel on their own.
