Stewardship Saturday at Charlestown Navy Yard

Join other park stewards to help us get our tools into fighting shape for future work on the islands!

Come join park biologists and volunteer stewards for Stewardship Saturday. Help us maintain our hand tools for future work on the islands. We will clean, sharpen, and workshop the tools that are vital to our ecological restoration work throughout the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park – no prior experience necessary! We will demonstrate how to maintain each tool.

Directions: Work will be conducted at the Charlestown Navy Yard. Free parking is available at this location. If you would like to park at the Navy Yard, please contact Laura Yates (laura_yates@nps.gov) prior to the event with your car’s make and model, license plate number, and state of registration.

What to wear: Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and closed-toe shoes. Conditions can be unpredictable so please monitor the weather in the days leading up the event and dress appropriately. This event will take place outside, so please plan accordingly.

What to bring: Please bring a lunch and reusable water bottles. Bring all your water for the day! Sunscreen and a hat are always recommended. Tools will be provided.

Event will run rain or shine, however, may be cancelled due to severe weather.

*NOTE: Work consists of natural or cultural resource field stewardship. Potential hazards include the use of hand tools. Work may be conducted in extreme heat or cold.

Program destination is subject to change based on field conditions. For questions please contact Laura Yates at (617)-455-9158 or laura_yates@nps.gov.
