HarborFit: Tai Chi

Start your Saturday morning at Castle Island with a free Tai Chi class overlooking Boston Harbor!

Tai Chi is meditation in motion; great for balance, stress release, and reducing joint pain. Slow moves help you coordinate your upper & lower body. Follow along as Huan leads you in Yang Style Tai Chi and start your weekends off right!

Participants should bring the following:

  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen

About the InstructorHuan Zhang is a 6th-generation practitioner with 40+ years of Chinese martial arts experiences. He has studied a variety of martial arts with many top masters and lineage holders from China, including his father, Grandmaster Zhang Lu Ping, Grandmaster Li Tai Liang, Great Grandmaster Cai Hong Xiang, Grandmaster Xu Hong Ju, Grandmaster Xie Bin Can and many others. He is specialized on Chen and Yang Style Tai Chi, Tong Bei Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi and Chin Woo Kung Fu. Huan has appeared on WCVB & NECN and has published many martial arts articles in major magazines in both China and United States. He is the Chief Exercise designer for a NIH granted Joint Pain Study for elderly at University of Massachusetts, Boston, as well as the formal Chief Instructor for MIT’s Tai Chi and Kung Fu club. Huan is also the director of the Culture Promotion Committee for the The World Fighting Martial Arts Federation (WFMAF) to help promote Martial Arts worldwide.

About the series: Tai Chi at Castle Island is part of Boston Harbor Now’s HarborFit program, providing free fitness classes around Boston’s waterfront, including yoga, cardio movement, dance, and more!

 

This program is presented as part of the commemoration of the Boston Harbor Islands’ 25th anniversary as a National Park and 50th anniversary as a State Park.
