[Not Quite] Total Eclipse of the Park

Venture to Spectacle Island for an afternoon of solar eclipse viewing from Boston Harbor!

Featuring unobstructed views of Boston and its surroundings, Spectacle Island will offer a unique opportunity to experience 2024 partial solar eclipse. While Boston will not experience totality, we anticipate seeing 93% coverage of the sun if weather permits.

Your ticket includes:

  • Round trip ferry transportation from Long Wharf to Spectacle Island
  • Hiking along the 5 miles of trails
  • Bird and wildlife observations, and the effects of the partial eclipse
  • Special Eclipse Junior Ranger program with collectors badges (for all ages)
  • Climate Change interactive programming
  • DIY picnicking
  • S’mores on the beach (weather dependent)
  • Eclipse viewing materials.

Directions: Guests must arrive at Long Wharf North *by 12:30 pm* to board the ferry to Spectacle Island. It will depart promptly at 1:00 pm and will not wait for late arrivals. No refunds.

The return ferry will depart Spectacle Island at 4:30 pm, with an 5:00 pm scheduled return to Boston. *Please note that the Harbor can be busy in the evening which can cause unforeseen delays.*

Island Accessibilty for April 8: Due to ongoing dock and trail maintenance from off-season storms there will be limited accessibilty. All guests will traverse a flight of stairs when disembarking the ferry, and trails have experienced significant wash-out.

About Solar Eclipse:

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting the Moon’s shadow on Earth. A solar eclipse can only happen during a New Moon. The Moon’s orbit is titled 5 degrees to Earth’s orbit around the Sun. (National Weather Service).
