Bomba By The Sea: Spectacle Island Birthday Bombazo is a free, intergenerational cultural arts gathering rooted in Bomba, an Afro-Indigenous Puerto Rican folkloric tradition historically used to empower, to celebrate life’s milestones, and to strengthen community. This birthday-themed event honors that legacy by creating an accessible, culturally affirming space for Boston’s diverse communities to experience Bomba on one of the Harbor Islands. The program includes a welcome gathering, group stretch, celebration of September birthdays, and a collective ocean blessing to ground participants in shared intention. Attendees will enjoy live Bomba music by percussionists, singers, and dancers while taking part in call-and-response songs, movement, drumming, and an interactive Bombazo.
