Island Bound? Luke’s Lobster to Open New Shack at Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park Welcome Center, just in time for Summer

Luke’s Lobster is thrilled to announce the opening of its newest shack location on May 27th at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center. The 160 square foot shack began as a shipping container, and was then custom crafted by the Luke’s Lobster team in their own wood and steel fabrication shop to take on new life as an authentic Maine lobster shack. Nestled in one of New England’s most iconic and scenic destinations, the new outpost will bring Luke’s signature sustainable seafood to locals and visitors alike.

Whether you’re hiking or simply soaking up the summer sun, park-goers will now be able to enjoy freshly shucked Maine lobster, crab, and shrimp rolls, with a view that can’t be beat. Running to catch the ferry? Luke’s is a great spot for a grab-and-go lunch on your way to explore the islands.

“From Back Bay, to Downtown Crossing, to Fenway, and now at the welcome center of Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park, we’re excited to serve guests in such a uniquely beautiful spot,” says Luke Holden, founder and CEO of Luke’s Lobster. “With 34 unique islands and peninsulas, the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park is a true gem, and we can’t wait to be a part of the experience for everyone visiting this summer and beyond.”

To celebrate opening day, fifth-generation lobster fisherman and long-time friend and supporter of Luke’s Lobster, Jacob Knowles of TikTok and Instagram will be at the new location starting at 11 am with Luke Holden to meet and greet guests.

“There is something special about picnicking on one of the Boston Harbor Islands—seafood roll in hand.  We’re excited to partner with Luke’s Lobster to bring delicious, sustainable food options to visitors of the Boston Harbor Islands” says said Kathy Abbott, CEO and President, Boston Harbor Now. “Luke’s new shack enhances the park experience for visitors, offering high-quality seafood in a beautiful setting, while supporting our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community.”

The new shack will open daily for the season beginning May 27, 2025, with hours aligned to the ferry schedule. A dollar from every lobster roll sold on opening day will go towards Boston Harbor Now, who aims to ensure that Boston Harbor, its waterfront and islands are accessible and inclusive and that these special places are properly adapted to the risks of climate change. It joins a growing family of Luke’s Lobster shacks dedicated to traceable, sustainable seafood and unforgettable coastal hospitality.

About Luke’s Lobster

Luke’s Lobster was born out of the dream of Maine native and third-generation lobsterman Luke Holden to bring the quality, affordable lobster rolls of his youth to NYC. After meeting his co-founder Ben Conniff on Craigslist (yes, Craigslist), the two twenty-somethings, along with Luke’s dad, Jeff Holden, who is the very first licensed lobster processor in the state of Maine opened their first lobster shack in a 250 square foot space in NYC’s East Village in October 2009. Nearly 15 years later, the family business now includes Luke’s brothers Bryan and Mike.

In 2018, Luke’s furthered their growing seafood company’s commitment to sustainability and socially conscious business practices by becoming a certified B Corporation®, reflecting Luke’s Lobster’s deep devotion to each of its communities, its family of teammates, and the environment. Luke’s is now the highest scoring B Corp Certified seafood company in the US, and in 2024 was a recipient of Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Award.
