HarborFit: Capoeira at Piers Park

Learn capoeira, an Afro-Brazillian art form which combines dance and martial while overlooking spectacular views of Boston Harbor.

Overlooking the harbor from East Boston, join our capoeira class that includes acrobatics, hands on the ground, inverted kicks, physical expression, and strategy.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian discipline that combines martial art, dance, acrobatics, and music. Developed in the 16th century by enslaved Africans in Brazil, capoeira helps people to approach conflict, fear, and uncertainty with greater confidence, determination, and humor. Today’s students, like the earliest practitioners of capoeira, learn to translate struggles into celebrations, to believe in their abilities, and to understand the richness of sharing with others. Increasingly visible in popular culture and mainstream media, capoeira has gained respect as a martial art form throughout the world and has attracted millions of individuals from every part of the globe.

Led by Veronica Robles Cultural Center instructor Jociney Barbosa, member of ABADA CAPOEIRA – The Brazilian Association for the Support and Development of the Art of Capoeira.
