Take a boat cruise out to Spectacle Island. Join rangers for fun activities-Snow Shoeing, Cross-Country Skiing (if we have snow!) Hiking, Junior Ranger Fun, or just roaming the island. Bring your own equipment and a pack lunch-chowder and chili will be available for sale on the boat.

Join us on First Night. We will be at the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Kennedy Greenway from 12:00 to 6:00 on Saturday, December 31. We will also offer a harbor cruise with a park ranger at 1:00 and 3:00. more

Join us throughout the year. Just because the ferries stop running, doesn't mean the activities do. The park holds special trips and cruises throughout the year. Join us for a cruise in honor of Veterans, or to view winter wildlife. Bring the kids out during winter school vacations, or participate in monthly stewardship opportunities or Park Serve Day. Check the park calendar often for updates or visit one of the mainland loncations (Deer Island, Webb Memorial, Nut Island, or Worlds End.)

Ferries leave from Boston Sept. 6 to Oct. 10.

Ferries now leave every hour from Long Wharf North for Georges and Spectacle Islands. Ferry service to other islands in the park has ended for the 2011 season. Join us---the islands are a great fall get-away.

Hurricane Update: Georges, Spectacle, Grape, Bumpkin and Lovells open.

Regular ferry service has resumed to Georges and Spectacle Islands. The Snack Shack and gift shop are open.

Interisland ferry service from Hingham and Hull has resumed on regular schedule---but with limited stops. Grape Island, Bumpkin, and Lovells Island are open for day visitors and campers. (Peddocks remains closed.)

Hurricane Cancelations

Ferry service is suspended and islands are closed from noon Saturday, August 27, through Monday, August 29.

All island events (tours, programs, private events, etc.) are canceled, including: Stewardship Saturday, Boston Light Tours, and Sunday's Thompson Island Salt Marsh Trek and History Walk.

Camping islands are also unavailable. Please confirm the island status before departing for camping islands on or after Tuesday.

Regular operations on Georges, Spectacle, and Thompson Islands are expected to resume on Tuesday, please follow the website for updates, particularly on the Inter-Island Shuttle Route.

The 54th regiment visits Georges Island.

To commemorate Fort Warren's role as a training camp for Massachusetts' Union troops during the summer of 1861, Civil War living historians from the MA 54th Infantry Regiment will visit Georges Island on August 13, 2011.

There is something for everyone that day, all in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. Join us for interactive living history demonstrations, performances from youth from New Bedford Whaling NHP honoring the 54th, a talk by Dr. Samito's on his recently published book, "Becoming American Under Fire: Irish Americans, African Americans, and the Politics of Citizenship during the Civil Era," join a living history tour and meet Dr. Charles Macgill, as he reminisces about his confinement as a Confederate political prisoner, or have your picture taken with a soldier or lady from that time period.

Native American Summer Festival: August 6

Georges Island will be filled with the harmony of Native women singing traditional and contemporary songs along with the beat of the drum as regional Native performers, educators, and community members gather to commemorate the Native history of the Boston Harbor Islands and celebrate ongoing Native persistence of the peoples who called the area of the islands home.
