Teach & Learn

Take advantage of the Boston Harbor Islands—on your own or via one of the many programs for teachers and students. Getting to the islands is fast, easy, and fun for students. And the diversity of the Boston Harbor Islands means you can find an island that fits your plans and your curriculum. Whether you need help planning a field trip, curriculum materials, or want a full in-class and on-island program, we can help. And just because a trip is educational doesn’t mean it can’t be a fun adventure too.

Plan a Field Trip

Take your class to the islands for fun and learning: experience the Boston Harbor Islands’ natural environment and explore their rich human history. Choose an island based on your lesson plan, find a boat, complete permit applicaitons, and otherwise prepare for your trip. (If you are traveling with 25 or more people, you will need a group ferry reservation and an island use permit. Special rates and programs are available for school and other educational groups.)

Curriculum-based Programs

Partner with park staff in the classroom and on the islands to take advantage of unique educational opportunities. Choose from a range of programs that focus on science, history, language arts, and team-building.

Curriculum Materials

Use curriculum developed by teachers and park staff to bring the islands into your classroom. Lesson plans and teacher guides help incorporate the islands into numerous disciplines through collaborative inquiry.
